YP Project

YP Project

The YP Project aims to raise public awareness of the racial disparities within Kansas’ foster care system, exposing how many youth fall into the foster care-to-prison pipeline. This project will elevate the voices of youth directly impacted by the foster and juvenile systems through a series of short videos called “Kansas Throwaways: The Mishandling of the Most Vulnerable Youth Population”. Telling one’s own story can be empowering for young people who have been harmed by these systems. If you want to share your story please fill out this contact form and we will be in touch.

I Am Why

I Am Why

I Am Why brings young women and gender expansive activists together with researchers and other partners to increase young activists’ individual and collective power. By celebrating their strengths and sharing their stories and visions for justice, young people lead the way to policies, practices and programs that work.

This was collaborative effort with Destination Innovation and Progeny, to uplift the stories and leadership of young women in Wichita.  The featured artists are all young women who participated in a workshop series about empowerment through storytelling and visual representation. The pieces are mixed media paintings over photo portraits of the artists (photography by Yadira Palacios).
